‘A profound betrayal’

A district constable who was allegedly caught while trying to hide $400,000 she stole from a colleague was granted bail in the sum of $500,000 when she appeared in the St Andrew Parish Court on Thursday. The district constable, 31-year-old Shaneek Plummer of Innswood Village, St Catherine, is charged with simple larceny and possession of criminal property. Reports are that between 6:00 am and 6:30 am on Monday, a constable stationed at the Firearms and Narcotics Investigation Division (FNID) temporarily left a bag containing more that $650,000 cash in his office to use the restroom.

When he returned, he discovered that a portion of the cash was missing. Supervisors were notified and an internal investigation was launched. Plummer, who was based at FIND, was subsequently arrested on the compound after she was reportedly caught attempting to conceal the cash. The funds were fully recovered and verified as the exact amount reported missing. A file was prepared and submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, which advised that Plummer should be charged.

Addressing the breach of trust, the director of FNID Superintendent of Police Patrae Rowe declared that the division holds its personnel to the highest operational and ethical standards. “FNID handles some of the most sensitive investigations in Jamaica. That demands absolute and unshakable integrity from every member who walks through our doors,” Rowe stated. “Stealing from a colleague is a profound betrayal of the JCF [Jamaica Constabulary Force]. We do not hesitate to investigate our own, as criminality has no place within these walls,” added Rowe.
