Anderson times it right as Wall Street Trader nabs feature
Apprentice Jaheim Anderson delivered a perfectly timed ride to get Wall Street Trader (United States) up in the shadow of the post and land the $1.25-million Vassell “Jolly Man” Najiar Memorial Trophy — the feature on Sunday’s 10-race card at Caymanas Park. Trained by Rohan Mathie, the seven-year-old American-bred dark bay/brown gelding was settled off the early pace before unleashing a powerful run on the outside in deep stretch to collar rivals and win the Overnight Allowance event over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m) by 2 ¾ lengths. She’s That Girl (Raddesh Roman) finished second, with California Crown (Robert Halledeen) third. California Crown broke smartly and showed the way from She’s That Girl, while Fit To Fire (Tevin Foster) recovered from a sluggish start to slot into third ahead of Diesel Train (Phillip Parchment), with Wall Street Trader patiently ridden behind going into the half-mile turn. She’s That Girl struck the front in deep stretch and looked set to steal it, but Anderson had yet to go for his mount. Once the power button switched on and asked for maximum effort, Wall Street Trader found another gear and powered home to win going away. It was the second winner for Anderson, who had earlier won aboard Kamiak in the sixth race for trainer Anthony Nunes. Nunes had earlier saddled Bromtpon Boy (Raddesh Roman) in the fifth for a double well. Roman also won two races having won aboard Drone Strike for trainer Carlton Cunningham in the opening race. Cunningham saddled She’s Adorable (Paul Francis) for a double as well. Racing is to continue on Monday.
