Antonio Brown Avoids Prison With Guilty Plea In Miami Shooting Case

Antonio Brown avoided prison Friday (November 6) by pleading guilty to aggravated assault with a firearm in his Miami shooting case.
Judge Marisa Tinkler Mendez sentenced the former NFL star to three years of probation. The Associated Press reported that Brown must attend weekly counseling and cannot possess a firearm while he is under supervision.
The agreement also lets Brown avoid a criminal conviction. He can ask the court to end his probation around the halfway point if he follows every condition.
The difference is significant. Brown entered court facing an attempted murder case. He left with no jail term, no felony conviction under the agreement and a possible path off probation after about 18 months.
That outcome closes a case that once exposed him to decades in prison. Prosecutors initially charged Brown with attempted murder, an offense that carried a possible 30-year sentence.
Police alleged Brown grabbed a handgun from a security worker outside a celebrity boxing event in Miami in May 2025. Investigators said he fired twice at a man he had fought earlier in the night.
Brown maintained that he acted in self-defense while people were trying to take his jewelry. His defense later raised Florida’s Stand Your Ground law while challenging the attempted murder charge.
The plea was not a surprise. AllHipHop reported in September that Brown planned to resolve the case with a reduced charge after the other man said he no longer wanted to participate in the prosecution. Judge Tinkler Mendez delayed an earlier hearing while she reviewed the proposed agreement.
Brown was extradited from Dubai in November 2025 after authorities issued a warrant months earlier. The former receiver has business interests in Dubai.
He had pleaded not guilty before accepting the reduced charge. Friday’s hearing changed the case from an unresolved violent felony prosecution into a sentence with clear limits and regular court oversight.
The 38-year-old played 12 NFL seasons, spending most of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2021 before his playing career ended after he left the field during a game the following season.
Friday’s plea removes the risk of a prison sentence, but Brown remains under court supervision. His path to an early release from probation now depends on counseling, the firearm ban and full compliance with the judge’s terms.
