Anuel AA said corridos had all but pushed trap and reggaeton out of his own playlist. Yet he still planned a return to the sounds that made him a star.
He shared plans for a full corridos album at Billboard Latin Music Week in Miami Beach. He said he had spent more of this year in Mexico than in the United States, EFE reported. He had also filled his time in the car with corridos. To him, their rise had brought a new style the music world needed.
He named Peso Pluma, Fuerza Regida, Tito Double P and Neton Vega among the acts he admired. They were friends, but he was also a fan of their work.
Part of the draw was how they sang. He praised their skill and the way many of them worked without Auto-Tune. He also felt the music shared some of trap’s street roots, though each style took its own approach. He called the full corridos set a gift for Mexico.
Yet his next move would still leave room for both sounds. His other planned album, “Real Hasta La Muerte 2,” would blend trap and reggaeton and build on his 2018 debut.
That interest had already led him to work with stars from the genre. In July, he joined Luis R Conriquez and Fuerza Regida on “Hay Con Que,” from Conriquez’s “Muchacho Alegre.” The official lyric video came out ahead of the album’s July 10 release.
He linked the four-year wait since “LLNM2” to a wish to live more fully. During the Billboard chat, he spoke about the time he wanted with his loved ones.
“I wanted to spend more time with my children and my family,” he said.
He had kept working while making room for that time. His most recent single, “Vuelve,” arrived on October 9.
He also shared “Los Veo,” a track from the corridos set made with producer Alex Torres. He linked that project to time spent in Mexico through some of his low points.
Anuel hoped to put both albums out together. He did not set a date, though he said he would celebrate the project on his November 26 birthday.
