Aspen Kartier Thrown In Jail & Gets Strict No-Dogs Order Over Puppy Abuse

Aspen Kartier was sent to jail in her puppy abuse case, with a court order that also keeps her away from dogs.

The rapper, whose legal name is Aspen Easterling, received a one-year sentence: 10 days in jail and the rest on probation. She got credit for two days served, FOX 5 Atlanta reported, citing the DeKalb County Solicitor-General’s Office.

The judge denied her bid for first-offender status, so the conviction stays on her record. A second cruelty charge was dropped. Her probation bars her from owning or caring for dogs, or sharing a room with one. Random checks will enforce those terms.

She must take 24 anger management classes, finish an animal abuse prevention program and do 100 hours of community service. The court ordered her to pay LifeLine Animal Project $3,048 for the puppy’s care, plus $39 monthly probation fees.

The case began with her January 29 Twitch stream. PETA described a three-month-old puppy being hit and lifted by the skin of its back. The group later posted footage on Vimeo. The historical clip contains disturbing footage of animal abuse.

Viewers helped bring the case to police. PETA emergency response director Kristin Rickman told FOX 5 in February that dozens of people contacted the group about the stream.

“Within a few hours, we identified the suspect’s real name and physical address… we immediately shared that with Brookhaven Police.”

Brookhaven officers arrested Aspen Kartier on January 30 and removed the Maltipoo from her home. As AllHipHop reported at the time, police said the puppy appeared healthy when they found it. DeKalb County Animal Control took custody of the dog.

The stream also cost her access to Twitch. The platform suspended her account for breaking its rules. Early reports did not establish how long that ban would last.

In February, FOX 5 reported that animal services was holding the puppy as evidence. PETA honored Brookhaven police with its Compassionate Police Department Award for the rescue, crediting the officers for acting on the information it shared.

Aspen Kartier and another person who claimed to own the puppy gave up their rights to it.
