Becky G mourned Dolores Huerta on October 28, sharing a personal farewell after the labor leader died at 96.
The singer posted a black-and-white photo of Huerta on Instagram Stories, according to Rolling Stone.
“Dolores, knowing you is one of my life’s greatest joys and inspirations,” Becky wrote, the outlet reported. Her message also recalled their shared laughs and dances.
The two had appeared together at La Cena’s celebration of Latino culture at NeueHouse Hollywood on February 21, 2025. Photographer Presley Ann documented the pair at the event for Getty Images. Huerta received La Cena’s Luminary Award during that year’s celebration.
This April, Becky also joined Karol G’s Coachella set, where the headliner spoke about the Latino community and immigration enforcement.
Huerta died at home in Bakersfield, California, with close family around her, her foundation said. Her family asked for privacy and said plans to honor her life would follow.
The organizer had spent decades fighting for people who grew and picked the nation’s food. She co-founded the National Farm Workers Association with Cesar Chavez in 1962. It later joined with the Filipino-led Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee to form the union that became the United Farm Workers.
Her work reached shoppers as well as people in the fields. During the grape boycott, Huerta led the campaign on the East Coast. She moved to New York and worked to get small stores on board before taking the fight to big grocery chains, according to the National Park Service.
At the bargaining table, she helped secure better pay and working conditions. Her push for change also reached state lawmakers. She helped win California’s 1975 Agricultural Labor Relations Act, which gave farmworkers the right to organize and bargain as a group.
The Dolores Huerta Foundation carried that community work forward. Its programs helped residents organize around schools, clean air and water and other local needs. In 2012, President Barack Obama awarded Huerta the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
The foundation plans to open the Dolores Huerta Peace and Justice Cultural Center in the Central Valley in 2027. In place of flowers or gifts, Huerta requested contributions to the foundation.
