BigXthaPlug Gives Dallas Fans First Listen to ‘Better Over Time’

Dallas-based scribe Crystal Willis gives insights on BigX’s star-studded new album and accompanying short film.

Dallas showed up for one of its own Monday night as multi-platinum rapper BigXthaPlug gave fans an exclusive first listen to his upcoming album, Better Over Time, during a private listening event and short film screening on October 26.

Held at a Cinemark theater in Dallas, the event offered invited guests an early look at the rapper’s latest creative chapter, combining new music with a cinematic experience just days before the project’s official October 30 release.

But the experience didn’t end inside the theater. Following the screening, BigXthaPlug surprised fans with an impromptu parking lot performance filmed for an upcoming YouTube show. Fans were invited to make a cameo during the taping, giving AllHipHop a behind-the-scenes look at the unexpected moment as the Dallas rapper brought his energy directly to the crowd.

The hometown screening was part of a multi-city promotional rollout that included Charlotte, North Carolina, on October 26, followed by Houston, Miami and Los Angeles on October 27.

BigXthaPlug Brings Star Power to ‘Better Over Time’

Better Over Time boasts an impressive lineup of collaborators, including Lil Yachty, GloRilla, Leon Thomas, Loe Shimmy, Babyface Ray, Fridayy, Ava Max, Ro$ama and Belly Gang Kushington.

The project follows BigXthaPlug’s country-inspired album I Hope You’re Happy, which expanded his audience beyond traditional Hip-Hop and debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard 200.

With Better Over Time, X continues building on his success while exploring themes of growth, ambition and the realities that come with navigating fame. The accompanying short film adds another dimension to the project, extending the album’s storytelling beyond the recording studio and onto the screen.

The exclusive screenings also reflect an increasingly popular approach to album promotion, where artists create immersive experiences that give fans more than a traditional listening party.

For BigXthaPlug, combining new music, film and an unexpected live performance provided an opportunity to connect with his audience ahead of the highly anticipated release.

From Dallas Roots to Mainstream Success

BigXthaPlug’s rise has been fueled by his commanding delivery, unmistakable Texas sound and unapologetic approach to storytelling. Breakout records including “Texas,” “Mmhmm” and “Levels” helped establish his presence in Hip-Hop, while his 2024 sophomore album Take Care debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200.

His momentum continued with sold-out tour dates, major festival appearances and growing industry recognition. His Take Care North American Tour sold out 30 venues and drew more than 35,000 fans, further demonstrating his expanding reach.

More recently, his collaboration with country artist Bailey Zimmerman, “All The Way,” reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, highlighting his ability to connect with audiences across genres without abandoning his Texas roots.

Despite his mainstream success, Dallas remains central to BigXthaPlug’s identity. Hosting an exclusive listening experience in his hometown gave local supporters an opportunity to celebrate his latest milestone before the music reaches a global audience.

With a star-studded tracklist, cinematic rollout and another major release on the horizon, BigXthaPlug continues to establish himself as one of the most compelling voices emerging from Texas Hip-Hop.

Better Over Time arrives Friday, October 30, on major streaming platforms.
