Bilal Denies Domestic Violence Allegations And Slams Ex’s “Financial Gain” Motive

Bilal denied domestic violence allegations and accused the mother of his adult son of publicly humiliating his family for financial gain after their private dispute spilled onto social media.

The R&B singer responded after Jamila Raegan, the mother of his son Bashir, accused Bilal Oliver of abuse and said she had spent more than half her life protecting him.

Bilal, in a pointed, suggestive social media post, categorically rejected the allegations while revealing additional details about the family’s circumstances.

“I am deeply saddened that a private family matter has been brought to social media.

It’s insulting & hurts that his mother would choose to publicly humiliate me and my family for financial gain, especially now that the state has guardianship of him.

I categorically deny the allegations of domestic violence and any other accusations made against me. I have not been with his mother in over 20 years.

I understand how hard it can be dealing with the city/ state for services, Ive had to navigate it my self, while my son was in my custody for 24 years, her frustrations are geared towards the wrong people!

Out of respect for my son, my family, and everyone involved, I will not engage in a public back-and-forth online spectacle set up to destroy my character & legacy.

The appropriate authorities will handle any issues that require their attention. This is a difficult and heartbreaking situation. I respectfully ask for privacy and understanding as we navigate this matter.”

Bilal’s statement directly disputes key elements surrounding Raegan’s account. He said Bashir had been in his custody for 24 years and claimed the state currently has guardianship of their son. He also said he has not been romantically involved with Raegan for more than two decades.

Raegan previously posted an emotional message accusing the singer of abuse while describing the pressures she says she has faced involving Bashir, an adult with multiple disabilities including autism and bipolar disorder.

“I’m not okay. I’m not okay because I’ve spent over half of my life protecting an ab#ser. His name is Bilal Oliver aka bilalmusic.”

Raegan also claimed she was caring for Bashir alone.

“I am caring for him alone while his father continues to live his life in complete disregard. I am suffering.”

She said relatives, friends and members of her community have supported her before ending her message with another expression of distress.

“I am breaking. I am not okay.”

Bilal’s response now creates two sharply conflicting accounts of the family’s circumstances. Raegan alleges years of abuse and says she has been left carrying the burden of their son’s care.

Bilal denies domestic violence and other accusations while saying he cared for Bashir for 24 years.

Bilal has previously spoken publicly about Bashir’s autism and the effect fatherhood has had on his music.
