Bktherula Called Dad To Check Her Spanish, Then Put Him On “JEVITAS”

Bktherula turned a Spanish check with her dad into a family feature on “JEVITAS,” explaining how a call home changed a song on her new album.

In an interview with Metal, she said the song took shape at an isolated mountain camp after a break in Ibiza. She called her father to check whether the Spanish she remembered made sense.

“But he told me it was fire, and I ended up getting him on the track,” she said.

Those recording trips can last two or three weeks, with producers joining her in places including Joshua Tree and the beach.

The song appeared on N5ON, released October 30 through Warner Records. The 14-track album also included “ACTIVATED” with Juicy J and “ADDICTED2U” featuring underscores, alongside the Whethan collaboration “I GO PUNK.”

The project began as an EP and grew into an album within roughly a year. She contacted underscores after one of her songs appeared in the producer’s set or remix and spread on Twitter.

Her interest in making room for different sounds was already clear when “I GO PUNK” arrived on May 29.

In a statement from Warner Records, Bktherula described setting aside genre expectations while making the song. She wanted something that captured the pleasure of being out with friends, with a loose approach to how it should sound.

Whethan brought his own history as a fan to the pairing. He said he had followed her work for years and had previously mentioned her on “Lock It Up,” his record with Yeat, midwxst and Matt Ox. He viewed their time in the studio as a chance to bring rap and electronic dance music together.

Bktherula told Metal her increasingly electronic sound developed naturally. She also named PinkPantheress among her current inspirations.

Their connection predated this album: PinkPantheress announced Bktherula as a supporting act on selected “Capable Of Love Tour” dates in November 2023. AllHipHop reported that announcement as PinkPantheress prepared a North American run, with Kanii also listed among the supporting acts.

As for her next move, Bktherula said she had already finished another album to follow N5ON.
