Body of Chinese businessman found after fire destroys Port Maria supermarket
ST MARY, Jamaica — The body of a 24-year-old Chinese businessman was discovered inside his supermarket after a massive fire destroyed the establishment in Port Maria, St Mary, on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Li Kanghin, one of the operators of Ling Fei Supermarket and Wholesale, located along Stennett Street in Port Maria. According to police reports, Kanghin was inside the building, where he also lived, at about 1:40 pm when employees reportedly heard an explosion and noticed flames coming from a section of the premises. The police and the Port Maria Fire Brigade were called to the scene, where firefighters battled the blaze for several hours. Kanghin’s body was discovered inside the gutted building during cooling-down operations after the fire was brought under control. Meanwhile, police have dismissed social media rumours that a firefighter was trapped inside the building during the blaze, saying they received no such report. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing, according to the St Mary police. READ: Fire guts Chinese supermarket in Port Maria, one feared dead
