Boyz II Men Head To Country With Warner Records Nashville Deal

Boyz II Men signed with Warner Records Nashville for a country project due in 2027, marking a new chapter after decades of R&B hits.

Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris and Shawn Stockman told The Tennessean that their first country album grew out of their love for the music. The trio worked with Nashville songwriters for the project. For them, the move was a chance to learn, reach more listeners and keep the sound that built their career.

Stockman pointed to country’s storytelling through song as part of the draw. He named Travis Tritt, Vince Gill and The Chicks among the acts they enjoyed growing up. He also said the new writing sessions helped refresh their creativity and that the Warner team understood their vision.

“We’ve always been enamored with the storytelling component of country music and how they actually put those stories to melody. Again, it was a learning experience. That is what we like. We have been in this business for three decades, but we’ll forever be students of music and we’ll always be open to learn and to appreciate different styles,” Stockman said.

Warner Records Nashville chair and president Cris Lacy welcomed the group in a statement reported by MusicRow. She cited their influence on country artists and their own early love of Randy Travis as reasons the pairing made sense.

“Boyz II Men’s global influence is decades in the making,” Lacy said.

The deal followed their Lady A collaboration, “I Love The One.” That song was made for a forthcoming music project inspired by the series “The Chosen.”

Their ties to Nashville go back years. In a 2019 interview with Nashville Lifestyles, the group spoke about working with Brett Young on “CMT Crossroads” and visiting the Grand Ole Opry. They had also worked on “Be Still Moses” with Steep Canyon Rangers.

Those projects put their voices alongside country and roots acts well before this label deal.

In April, they joined Cody Johnson at Stagecoach in Indio, California. Johnson began singing “On Bended Knee” before the trio came out to help perform their 1994 hit.

The Philadelphia group’s debut, Cooleyhighharmony, arrived in 1991. Their catalog grew to include “End of the Road,” “I’ll Make Love To You” and “Water Runs Dry.” They have won four Grammys and sold more than 60 million albums worldwide.

AllHipHop previously reported on their plans for a biopic and documentary, with the members serving as executive producers alongside partners Compelling Pictures and Primary Wave.

As Wanya explained to The Tennessean, the country album leaves room for the group’s R&B roots.

“We don’t want to become country. We want to be a part of it,” he said.
