Briefcase Musik Group Honors the Life and Legacy of Damon “Wacko” Grison

Creator of “Nolia Clap” remembered by family and collaborators committed to preserving his music
Briefcase Musik Group mourns the sudden passing of its founder and beloved friend, Damon “Wacko” Grison a New Orleans artist and gifted wordsmith whose love of music crossed genres and whose creative spirit shaped lasting collaborations.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Wacko had a lifelong appreciation for musical expression. From rap and gospel to rock ’n’ roll and reggae, he found inspiration across sounds and traditions. His gift for language and storytelling was central to his work as a songwriter, recording artist, and collaborator.

Wacko was a creator of the hit song “Nolia Clap,” produced by Donald “XL” Robertson. His body of work also included songwriting and featured appearances with artists such as Scarface, including “Big Dog Status.” These collaborations reflected his dedication to his craft and the relationships he built through music.

At the time of his passing, Wacko was preparing for a new chapter. He had recently secured a distribution partnership with XLP/ Virgin Music Group and Hatchbach Entertainment, with several projects scheduled for release.

“We will ensure that my son’s voice lives on,” said Georgia Grison, Wacko’s mother and Executive Producer.

Georgia is working alongside producers Donald “XL” Robertson, BlaqNmilD, and Darryl Hatcher of Hatchbach Entertainment to curate her son’s music and preserve his legacy. Together, they will work to honor Wacko’s voice, creative intentions, and the relationships behind his recordings. Future projects will feature artists who created music with him.

Briefcase Musik Group will continue under the operational management of Corey Grison and Bryan Bell, supporting the label’s ongoing work and its founder’s musical legacy.

As his family and team cope with this sudden loss, they carry with them his favorite phrase: “Ain’t no Bread in that Bed.” Those familiar words remain a cherished reminder of his personality, determination, and unmistakable voice.

To the friends, family members, colleagues, and fans around the world, we extend our heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming outpouring of love and respect for our brother. Your support brings comfort as we grieve and reminds us that his music and memory continue to connect people.

Please join us in celebrating the life and music of Damon “Wacko” Grison.

His music lives on. His legacy continues.
