News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, Thurs. Nov. 5, 2026: She finished third in the Ballon d’Or. She is the reigning Women’s Super League Player of the Year. Yet Jamaican superstar Khadija “Bunny” Shaw did not even make the shortlist for the prestigious FifPro Women’s World XI. Shaw is among several big names left off the 26-player shortlist, alongside Haiti’s Melchie Dumornay, in a list that is once again drawing criticism.
Voted On By The Players Themselves
The FifPro World XI is the only award decided solely by fellow footballers, with players from around the world casting the votes. That makes the omissions all the more surprising: five of the top 10 Ballon d’Or finishers were left out.
Shaw’s exclusion stands out most. The Jamaica striker helped Manchester City win a league and FA Cup double, finishing as the club’s top scorer with 21 goals in 22 games. Haiti’s Dumornay, one of the brightest young talents in the women’s game, was also a shock omission. So were Malawi star Temwa Chawinga, Barcelona’s Caroline Graham Hansen and Denmark captain Pernille Harder.

Not The First Time
It is not the first time the FifPro shortlist has raised eyebrows. Last year, Arsenal and Spain midfielder Mariona Caldentey was left out of the World XI despite finishing runner-up in the Ballon d’Or. And in 2024, when 7,000 women’s footballers voted, four of the top five Ballon d’Or finishers were not shortlisted.
Why It Matters For The Caribbean
For Caribbean fans at home and across the diaspora, Shaw and Dumornay are proof that the region produces world-class talent capable of starring for Europe’s biggest clubs. Their absence from a list voted on by their peers raises fresh questions about how widely their achievements are being recognized inside the game.
