California man goes to Best Buy. Then he uses a sneaky trick to get brand-new Razers: ‘Ima keep doing it’

A California man showed viewers how he used his warranty to repeatedly get brand-new Razer headphones free of charge. Viewers question just how far the warranty can go.

On Aug. 19, John Ramirez (@024isaac) shared his hack in a TikTok video. “So my headphones that I had for my PS5 are starting to go out,” he shared.

How Did He Get Razer Headphones at Best Buy For Free?

“Good thing I have the two-year warranty right there,” he added.

He added that because he had a two-year warranty, he’s able to get a new pair before the warranty expires. He also got the warranty on the replacement pair.

“Got the brand new pair of headphones, and I got the two-year warranty,” he said, “because having the two-year warranty on my last pair really saved me.”

The comments generally praised his approach, with many sharing that they do the same. “Always recommend it on small items like that, especially at Best Buy,” wrote one user.

Does This Line Up With Best Buy’s Warranty Policy?

Ramirez’s approach does generally line up with Best Buy’s warranty policy. Best Buy sells several types of Geek Squad Protection plans. The specific plan matters because coverage varies by product. For portable audio products, Best Buy currently offers a two-year Geek Squad Product Replacement plan. The plan covers issues such as normal wear and tear, Bluetooth problems, and power-surge damage. It does not cover accidental damage.

However, this strategy has a major limitation. A Geek Squad Product Replacement plan generally covers one replacement. Best Buy’s product page says customers can purchase another protection plan after receiving a replacement.

Manufacturer warranties usually focus on defects in materials or workmanship. They often do not cover normal wear and tear. Best Buy’s Product Replacement plans can cover normal wear and tear for certain products.

How Does Best Buy Line Up With Other Warranty Plans?

The Federal Trade Commission also distinguishes warranties from service contracts. Manufacturers typically include warranties with products, while customers separately purchase service contracts or extended protection. Most standard warranties also do not promise a brand-new replacement whenever a product fails.

A company might instead repair the item, replace a defective component, or offer another remedy. The exact terms depend on the warranty. The FTC advises consumers to check coverage, exclusions, fees, and claim procedures before buying extended protection.

A customer cannot assume that every warranty allows repeated replacements. Many plans limit claims, exclude ordinary wear, or require repairs first. Even at Best Buy, the customer must have a qualifying plan and a covered failure. The store also needs to determine that the claim qualifies.
