Cardi B brought Grow-Good to two New York beauty supply shops earlier this week after choosing local shops for her launch, not a big chain. Four more stores will join them on October 23.
The first stops were Beautify Beauty Supply in Harlem and Solea in the Bronx, and the next four shops are in Atlanta, Chicago, Houston and Los Angeles.
Cardi has known Beautify owner Tina Hassan for about 10 years. She values shop owners who will give her a straight answer about what they sell.
“If I ask them if they like a product, they’ll be honest with you if they don’t love it,” she told BoF.
Grow-Good is a joint venture between Cardi and fashion retailer Revolve. In its May earnings remarks, Revolve said the brand held a presale in March, then formally launched in April.
The company paired its business and marketing skills with Cardi’s reach beyond its usual shoppers. The teams promoted Grow-Good on social media, on her North American tour and at Revolve Festival.
Her interest in haircare came before the brand. Cardi spent years showing fans how she cared for her natural hair and sharing at-home treatments. She said the idea for her own line came from seeing others try her homemade mask.
She also used the April launch to question what people meant by “good hair.”
Growing up, she had heard that praise aimed at other people’s hair. Her own was left out of the conversation. She described the name as a change in focus: how people could grow their hair.
“So I want people to know that we’re growing our hair good,” Cardi said then.
Grow-Good now sells six products: two shampoos, two conditioners, a mask and a serum. Wash Cycle shampoo and Soft Serve conditioner come in two versions each.
The brand markets the added “+” versions for hair that needs more moisture. Prices on its site run from $14.99 to $19.99. The Get Rich mask costs the most; Everything Serum falls between it and the shampoos.
