Cardi B Steps In To Save Johns Hopkins Hoptoberfest For Students

Cardi B will headline Johns Hopkins University’s Hoptoberfest on Sunday, November 1, putting the rapper in front of ticket-holding students after Daniel Caesar became unavailable.

The show starts at 8 P.M. at the Ralph S. O’Connor Center for Recreation & Well-Being, according to The Johns Hopkins News-Letter. Existing tickets remain valid. The original allocation sold out, with hundreds still waiting.

The Hopkins Student Organization for Programming and the university’s Leadership Engagement and Experiential Development office announced the switch on October 31. Their email gave no specific reason for Caesar’s absence beyond unforeseen circumstances.

Hopkins sophomore Bhavya Guru told The News-Letter: “When they switched it to Cardi B, I was a little surprised and honestly thought it was fake.”

Caesar had been unveiled October 19 at a campus reveal event and through social media. That earlier announcement also explained how the school books its concerts: student programmers work with university staff on possible performers, then narrow the choices around student interest and school rules.

HOP President Rebecca Wu told The News-Letter that bookings must be “in accordance with JHU policies.”

The concert is free for students. Hoptoberfest dates to 2013, with Khalid headlining in 2025 and Rick Ross and Desiigner among previous performers. Cardi joins a campus tradition that has moved between R&B and rap acts.

The new appearance follows a much bigger live run for Cardi.

As AllHipHop previously reported, Pollstar’s midyear touring rankings placed her seventh worldwide, with the “Little Miss Drama Tour” grossing $72.1 million. The North American arena dates ran from February through April.

It was her first full arena tour, after earlier years with more festivals and bills shared with other acts. The full trek was scheduled for 35 shows.

Two Forum dates in Inglewood drew 25,145 fans. Live Nation called her the first female rapper to sell out two shows there. The tour supported her second album, Am I the Drama?, which arrived September 19, 2025, giving that run newer material alongside her older hits.

The Sunday booking also overlapped with a campus Take Back the Night rally supporting survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. Rally organizers moved their event to 4 P.M. on November 1.
