Catch’s London concert venue went into lockdown after a nearby double shooting left two men hospitalized and one with life-changing injuries.
The South London rapper performed at O2 Academy Islington on Tuesday night as police responded to gunfire near the Angel Central shopping complex. Officers received the call at 10:25 p.m. on October 27 and found two wounded men aged 33 and 27.
Police did not consider either man’s wounds life-threatening but described the older man’s injuries as life-changing, according to The Standard’s account of the investigation. The force had announced no arrests in its latest available account and was still trying to establish what happened.
The Nightly reported that the shooting prompted a lockdown at the concert venue during Catch’s concert. The police account did not identify Catch as a target or link either wounded man to her show.
Chief Superintendent Jason Stewart, who oversees local policing, urged people with information about the attack to help officers identify those involved.
“Violence has no place in our communities, and we are pursuing every available line of enquiry to identify those involved,” Stewart said.
Live Nation listed a 9 p.m. start for her October 27 show, with doors opening two hours before the performance.
The London booking came during a year that brought Catch a Best Hip-Hop Act nomination at the MOBO Awards. Her fellow nominees included Little Simz, Central Cee, Aitch and Loyle Carner at the 30th anniversary ceremony hosted by Eve and Eddie Kadi.
Catch had also worked with Dave on “Heisenberg” after a conversation on Instagram led to time together in the studio.
“From there it was just about energy and understanding. Once we worked together, it made sense straight away,” she told Notion about their creative partnership.
Back in Islington, police put tape across part of Liverpool Road and the approach to Angel Central as they examined the scene. Stewart said extra officers would patrol the area over the following days while police worked with partners to reopen the shopping complex.
