Charlamagne Tha God Praises Democrats For Putting Economic Concerns First

Charlamagne Tha God found a reason for hope in the Democrats who ran in the midterms: their attention to the bills people had to pay.

On “The Breakfast Club” on November 4, he praised the party’s candidates as the crew discussed the election results with Black Information Network journalist Mimi Brown.

“The quality of candidates on the Democratic side, I have never been more optimistic about in my life,” Charlamagne said.

He credited their focus on household finances over culture wars. His praise centered on what candidates offered voters and the issues they chose to address.

The conversation followed “The People’s Election Night,” which brought “The Breakfast Club” and “Native Land Pod” together for the November 3 vote.

The special’s episode description placed the four-hour live show at New York City’s Manhattan Center. Angela Rye, Bakari Sellers and Andrew Gillum joined the radio team for coverage billed as including reports from the rural South.

The program’s stated concerns included access to health care, the cost of housing, schools and paths to a better income. Those were also the kinds of day-to-day pressures Charlamagne pointed to when he explained his optimism the next morning.

His praise came days after he questioned Nicki Minaj’s political reasoning on the same show. During the October 29 broadcast, he challenged her description of New York Governor Kathy Hochul as evil, even though she supported Donald Trump and Hochul’s Republican opponent, Bruce Blakeman.

Charlamagne said Minaj had the right to choose whom she backed. He objected to the different moral standards he believed she applied to the politicians.

“That’s selective outrage, if you ask me,” he said.

The Associated Press called for Democrats to take control of both chambers of Congress. AP’s voter polling found anger over high prices, inflation, the Iran war and corruption. The gains included districts Trump carried in 2024, even as the Democratic Party itself remained unpopular with many voters.

Democrats also faced pressure to turn their gains into a check on Trump, even with voters still skeptical of the party.

The new majorities would give Democrats the votes to resist Trump’s legislative agenda and nominations, as well as the power to investigate his administration.
