Christopher Martin, Baby Cham and Iwer George to headline Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival in Miramar
The stage is set for this Sunday’s staging of the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival in Miramar, Florida, as Christopher Martin, Baby Cham, veteran soca star Iwer George and reggae vocalist Sailor Jane are ready to entertain patrons at the annual dinner extravaganza. Walshy Fire of Major Lazer, well-known event curator and disc jock Richie D and Extatic Sound whose origins are from St Ann, will provide the music to keep patrons in a dancing mood until throughout the day. Presented by Publix, the Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival (Florida) edition has emerged as one of the most anticipated Jamaican events within the Florida diaspora. The festival brings together Jamaican food, Caribbean music and culture for a full day of entertainment and family fun. Martin will bring his smooth vocals and contemporary reggae sound, with popular songs including Cheaters Prayer, I'm a Big Deal and Paper Loving. His soulful delivery and feel-good melodies have earned him a loyal following among reggae fans both in Jamaica and overseas. Baby Cham, who exactly 20 years ago scored big on Billboard with Ghetto Story (Chapter 2) featuring R&B singer Alicia Keys, will bring the dancehall vibe and will wow the crowd with his large catalog of hits including Gallong Ya Gal, Vitamin S and Babylon Bwoy. The carnival spirit of Trinidad and Tobago will be well represented when Iwer George takes the stage. The veteran soca performer is known for crowd favorites such as Come to Meh, Ah Home and Stage Gone Bad, his Road March-winning collaboration with Kes. Sailor Jane, the sole female on the lineup, adds a soulful reggae touch to the proceedings. The Florida-based artiste is known for her original music, including Walk Good and her reggae and ska interpretations of Sade’s classics such as Smooth Operator and No Ordinary Love. Her blend of soulful vocals and Jamaican-inspired rhythms offers a distinctive addition to the festival experience. Adding another dimension to the entertainment package will be the trio of DJs Walshy Fire of Major Lazer, who brings an international sound, blending dancehall, reggae, soca and global rhythms. Richie D will serve up crowd favorites from across the Caribbean music landscape, while Extatic Sound adds its own selection of reggae, dancehall and party anthems. Together, the DJs will keep the energy flowing between performances. Beyond the music, festivalgoers can enjoy authentic Jamaican jerk and Caribbean cuisine, culinary competitions and demonstrations, family activities, and an interactive Culture Corner, hosted by Jody Ann Gray and Raul Blaze. “Great food, great music and great company are at the heart of the Jamaican Sunday dinner tradition,” said Carson “Eddy” Edwards, co-founder of the Jamaican Jerk Festival. “We’re bringing that spirit to life with an entertainment lineup that celebrates the diversity and energy of Caribbean music.” The Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival takes place Sunday, November 8 at Miramar Regional Park.
