City & Guilds extends registration for November maths exam

KINGSTON, Jamaica — City & Guilds has announced an extension of registration for its special November mathematics skills examination, giving candidates until Tuesday, September 29, to register for an opportunity to strengthen their qualifications for further study and employment. The examination body is offering additional sittings to support learners whose education and examination preparation were disrupted by Hurricane Melissa. English skills is scheduled for November 11, customer service for November 12 and mathematics skills for November 13. Registration for English skills and customer service has closed; only mathematics skills registration remains open. The November mathematics sitting also offers a second chance for all students who were unsuccessful in their June exams. These results will be available in February 2027. “A missing mathematics qualification can put a student’s education or career plans on hold,” said Marva Duncanson, City & Guilds Caribbean representative. “The extended registration period gives candidates more time to take advantage of this November opportunity. We encourage students and parents to contact us now to discuss registration and preparation.” In addition to wide acceptance internationally, the City & Guilds Mathematics Skills (Stage 3) qualification is accepted for matriculation to certain undergraduate programmes at The University of the West Indies and other Jamaican tertiary institutions. Additionally, it meets the recruitment requirements of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Jamaica Defence Force and the Ministry of Finance & Public Services. It is also recognised by most public and private-sector entities. In the June 2026 examinations, 66 per cent of candidates who sat City & Guilds Stage 3 Mathematics achieved certification. The remaining 34 per cent are being encouraged to sit the November examination, giving them another opportunity to qualify and keep their education and career plans on track. The qualification assesses practical numeracy, including calculations involving money, percentages, measurement and data. For candidates who already hold other required subjects, securing a mathematics pass could fill a critical gap in their qualifications ahead of applications in 2027.
