Conway The Machine Says Griselda Is Not Family, But Is The Group Really Finished?

Conway The Machine may have just delivered the most devastating Griselda update imaginable, and he did it with five words in a social media comment section.

“Nah we not family.”

Whew! That is a mighty peculiar statement from somebody who shares actual blood with the people he is seemingly addressing.

The Buffalo lyricist seemingly dropped that comment in response to a social media discussion about his relationship with Westside Gunn and Benny The Butcher. The internet says one hopeful thing and here comes Conway to destroy it. The remark has everybody that cares wondering if Griselda has finally reached the point of no return. Feels so…

Let’s not plan the funeral for Griselda Records yet.

First of all, Conway and Westside Gunn are half-brothers. Benny is their cousin. So, when Conway seemingly dismisses the family connection, that is much deeper than music.

And there has been plenty of disagreement.

Earlier this year, Conway sparked controversy when he removed a photograph featuring the Griselda trio from a stage during a performance. Fans immediately suspected trouble. Conway criticized people for sensationalizing the moment…saying the drama was made up.

Then podcaster Mal said Jay-Z had suggested Westside Gunn give Conway and Benny ownership stakes in Griselda. Makes sense. Some skin in the game helps everybody rise. According to Mal, Gunn declined. Gunn has since pushed back against the account and at the same time, did not clarify in any meaningful way.

Conway was singing a different tune just months ago. In May, he discussed another Griselda project and insisted there was no serious hostility between the three artists. And now we’re hearing they’re not family? Something doesn’t add up. And this is frustrating.

Griselda helped restore the brand of rugged, uncompromising lyricism we love. Their success was built on chemistry, authenticity and even that shared history way up in Buffalo.

What is the reason?

Money? Old drama coming back? Or something else?

We simply don’t know. I don’t like this soap opera.

The comment alone does not establish that Griselda has officially disbanded. And yet here we are, hoping they work it out. Hip-Hop needs more examples of brothers building together! Strength in numbers.

At the same time, I get it. I get it.
