Cordae May Have Announced A Baby, But He Forgot One Detail

Hold on, Cordae.

Bro slipped a possible baby announcement into “Helpless,” then left out the detail everybody wants: Who is the mother?

I love that song and I hit the rewind button a few times. On his joint album with Anderson .Paak, Heavy Is the Crown the rapper delivers a line that sounds like a major life change:

“I’m finna have my second child, although we still ain’t said our vows.”

Cordae does not identify the mother or provide a due date in the song. So, now we have nothing except speculation.

Naturally, Naomi Osaka’s name enters the conversation. She and Cordae share daughter Shai, born in July 2023, and Osaka publicly confirmed their breakup in January 2025. As AllHipHop previously reported, “Helpless” also finds Cordae reflecting on the disappointment of raising their daughter in separate homes. That sucks. It also gives the song an emotional connection to their past, but in no way establishes that Osaka is expecting another child with him.

Could the lyric refer to another relationship Cordae has kept private? Possibly. Probably. Could listeners be missing context about when the verse was written? Also possible. It might just be a bar, right?

Then there is the idea that he may be considering marriage, I marriage something he is contemplating or using to describe his circumstances? The rhyme opens the door to the rumor.

Still, Cordae certainly knows how to leave fans curious. We have had plenty of surprise announcements through music, and this sounds like a significant one.
