Cori Broadus turned a childhood dream into a role she helped build, joining her father Snoop Dogg‘s animated children’s series “Doggyland” as the voice of Maxine.
The confident labradoodle marks Cori’s animation debut, The Hollywood Reporter revealed. Cori worked with co-creator Claude Brooks on the character’s look and personality, giving her more to do than just record.
As a child, Cori auditioned for “The Backyardigans” but did not get the part. Her long-held wish now has a new home in Maxine, who appears in the music video for “You’re Enough,” the title track from the show’s latest album.
The role builds on a project that Snoop launched in August 2022 with Brooks and singer-songwriter October London. Snoop voices Bow Wizzle, the grown-up dog who guides the puppies through their world.
From the start, the team built “Doggyland” around music that children and parents could enjoy together. Its dogs sing, dance and rap through lessons on letters, numbers, good habits and how to treat other people. The goal was to pair catchy songs with messages about kindness, confidence and accepting differences.
For Snoop, the idea grew out of his roles as a father, grandfather and youth football coach. At the show’s launch, he said he wanted to create a positive place for children that reflected the culture in both its music and characters. Making it available on YouTube and YouTube Kids also gave families free access.
The show’s early videos were usually under five minutes and paired familiar nursery rhymes with lessons on feelings, sharing and bullying. A Common Sense Media review noted that its sharing lesson goes beyond passing things around to include sharing emotions with others.
That mission has also moved beyond the screen. A partnership with Little Bee Books, announced late last year, set out to bring the songs into board books, sound books and activities. The first title adapted the show’s affirmations song, giving families another way to use its messages in daily life.
Maxine adds Cori’s own personality to that world. Snoop said he was proud to see his daughter become a cartoon character she had helped create.
“I love that she’s confident, a little sassy, and encourages kids to be themselves,” Cori said.
