Cornwall run riot with 92 points as schoolboys basketball action heats up
Cornwall College produced the most dominant performance of Thursday’s ISSA Schoolboys Basketball competition, crushing Ocho Rios High 92-7 in the Rural Under-16 category, while Campion College and Excelsior High claimed notable victories in the Urban Under-19 division. Cornwall’s 85-point winning margin was the standout result of the day, as they overwhelmed Ocho Rios in an emphatic display of offensive power. In another one-sided Rural Under-16 contest, Holland High defeated Dinthill Technical High 47-6, while Holmwood Technical recorded a 20-0 win over Munro College. Holmwood also enjoyed success in the Rural Under-19 competition, beating Denbigh High 67-41 behind an outstanding 24-point performance from Melvin Ragoo. Nickoy Knight added 18 points to help Holmwood secure a comfortable victory. Matthew Nagarsingh led Denbigh with 15 points. Cornwall continued their impressive day in the Rural Under-19 category, defeating Ocho Rios High 66-32 to complete a double over their opponents. In the Urban Under-16 division, Jamaica College defeated St Jago High 35-20, while Excelsior High cruised past Calabar High 52-17, with Steve Graham leading the way with 23 points. Kingston College edged Campion College 36-32 in a closely contested encounter. Kemar Gordon led KC with 10 points, while Daniel Baxter scored 12 for Campion. Campion, however, bounced back in the Urban Under-19 competition, defeating Kingston College 72-64 in one of the day's more competitive contests. Ryheem Martel led Campion with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Richard Leighton contributed 16 points. Kingston College mounted a strong offensive effort of their own, led by Joshua Grant's game-high 30 points and Terrence Mitchell's 19, but their combined scoring was not enough to prevent Campion from securing the win. Excelsior also completed a double over Calabar, following their Under-16 victory with a narrow 44-41 triumph in the Under-19 category. Jamaica College recorded another convincing result, defeating St Jago High 58-31. Sedu Hamm led JC with 15 points. Vauxhall High rounded off the Urban Under-19 results with a hard-fought 36-32 victory over Bridgeport High.
