Snoop Dogg is getting the full Hollywood treatment with Universal’s upcoming biopic, and the studio just locked in some serious talent to bring his story to life.
The film’s casting director has been working overtime to fill out the supporting roles, and the latest announcements reveal some genuinely interesting choices for key figures in Snoop’s rise to dominance.
SwayvoTwain, the son of legendary soul artist D’Angelo and R&B icon Angie Stone, is stepping into his first major film role as the Notorious B.I.G., one of Hip-Hop’s most iconic figures.
This is a significant moment for SwayvoTwain, who’s been building his own music career while honoring his parents’ legacy through his work.
Playing Biggie means embodying one of the most influential rappers of the ’90s, a figure whose impact on East Coast Hip-Hop remains unmatched even after his death in 1997.
That’s a lot of weight to carry in your debut.
According to Variety, Bentley Green will portray RBX, the Long Beach rapper who signed to Death Row Records alongside Snoop in the ’90s and built a career spanning three decades with multiple hit records.
G Perico, a Los Angeles-based recording artist and actor, plays Big Reecie Cup, another crucial figure in Snoop’s Long Beach roots and early career development.
These aren’t throwaway parts either. These are the people who shaped Snoop’s world.
Jonathan Daviss carries the entire film as Snoop himself, with director Craig Brewer steering the ship.
Brewer’s known for bringing authenticity to Hip-Hop stories, having directed “Hustle and Flow” and “Song Sung Blue,” so the project’s in capable hands.
The film’s stacked with other major names too. Myles Bullock Be plays Dr. Dre, Lauren London portrays Snoop’s late mother Beverly Tate, and Camron Jones takes on Tupac Shakur.
The ensemble also includes Algee Smith as Warren G, Tre Hale as Suge Knight, and Laya DeLeon Hayes as Snoop’s wife Shante Broadus.
Universal’s set the theatrical release for August 6, 2027, and Snoop himself is producing alongside Brian Grazer and other industry heavyweights.
