DaniLeigh said she learned to forgive people who hurt her without receiving an apology, bringing a different outlook to her music after years of public relationship drama.
In a new EARMILK interview, the singer explained why she no longer wanted anger to steer her work.
“I’ve learned to forgive people who have hurt me, even when I never received an apology.”
She credited her faith with helping her release resentment and said “With Love, From Dani” was not an attempt to retaliate against anyone. She did not name DaBaby or anyone else in that answer.
The two share a daughter, and their relationship previously played out in public. In November 2021, an argument between them aired on Instagram Live. When DaniLeigh discussed their breakup with Angie Martinez in May 2022, she described a relationship marked by repeated splits and reunions.
At that time, she said they were co-parenting and that DaBaby had not apologized.
In February 2022, DaBaby fought DaniLeigh’s brother, Brandon Bills, at a California bowling alley, TMZ reported. Bills later sued DaBaby, alleging an unprovoked attack. DaBaby had claimed self-defense.
Her music also reflected that period. She released “Dead To Me” alongside the Martinez interview, addressing the relationship through a very different musical message.
DaBaby disputed her account of the split and criticized the timing of “Dead To Me” and the Martinez interview in May 2022.
“Um, first of all, I feel like you waited too late. I told you back in December you should capitalize off the situation,” he said.
TMZ reported in June 2026 that a settlement notice had been filed in Bills’s lawsuit.
In the new conversation, DaniLeigh described motherhood as a reason to weigh the example her songs set. She wanted her daughter to hear strength, self-respect and faith in her work.
In a separate Spanish-language interview with PAPER, DaniLeigh described a limit on what she could write. If someone suggested a breakup song when she was not in that emotional place, she said, she could not do it. The music had to reflect what she was actually living.
She also described making a practical change to “With Love, From Dani” as it neared completion. Feeling that it needed more R&B, she went back through songs she had already made and added others until the project felt cohesive. She wanted the range of sounds to remain recognizably hers.
Working independently gave her a different kind of control, too. In an earlier GQ South Africa interview, she said she could create on her own schedule and owned her masters. She described having considered giving up, but said the chance to make music that helped people feel better gave her a reason to keep going.
