Did Allen Iverson Buy An Ownership Stake In The Philadelphia 76ers?

I don’t know about this one. Tyrese set it off and I knew something was off.

Allen Iverson has reportedly entered the Philadelphia 76ers ownership conversation, but the supposed blockbuster announcement appears to be running well ahead of the facts.

Tyrese posted the following declaration: “BREAKING: Philadelphia 76ers legend Allen Iverson has acquired an ownership stake in the franchise and is set to become one of the team’s newest owners, per league sources.”

That would be a magnificent homecoming for The Answer.

Unfortunately, nobody with the Sixers, the NBA or Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment has supplied the receipt.

The established ownership picture remains unchanged, according to the record and no legit news organization has verified it.

Josh Harris and David Blitzer led the investment group that purchased the franchise in 2011. The NBA approved that transaction, and the Sixers still identify HBSE as the organization behind the team. The company also lists the Sixers among its principal sports properties. There has been no official announcement placing Iverson inside that ownership structure. Yet.

Could Iverson quietly be purchasing a small stake? Certainly. Private investments are not always announced while negotiations are taking place. However, that possibility is not confirmation, and “per league sources” becomes considerably less impressive when those sources have no names, paperwork or credible reporting attached.

I hope this is real. With LeBron James and the rest of the squad, the Sixers are looking great.

Iverson’s bond with Philadelphia requires no embellishment. He is HIM. He won the 2001 NBA MVP award, carried the Sixers to the NBA Finals, had his No. 3 retired and received a sculpture at the team’s training complex. The franchise’s official alumni page celebrates all of those accomplishments, but it does not identify him as an owner, coach or basketball executive.

This rumor feels believable because Iverson already owns an enormous piece of the franchise’s identity. We have to wait and see how true this one is.
