Sean “Diddy” Combs reportedly suffered his head injury in a prison fight with Christopher “Dudus” Coke, the former leader of Jamaica’s notorious Shower Posse.
TMZ linked the injury to an October 9 clash at Fort Dix, citing multiple sources inside the New Jersey federal prison. That would place the fight a day before Diddy was taken out for medical care.
Dudus led the Shower Posse, also known as the Presidential Click, before his 23-year sentence in June 2012.
The new report describes anger over a crackdown on inmates’ banned phones. TMZ’s sources claimed Dudus blamed Diddy for bringing scrutiny to the prison through NBC News coverage of his alleged perks. They said officials carried out at least two raids and took phones from inmates, including Dudus.
Those sources also said both men received two weeks in the Special Housing Unit, or solitary confinement, after the fight. Diddy was already in that unit and was out for his daily break when the clash took place, the outlet reported.
The fight account differs from the explanation Page Six published October 13. An unnamed source told that outlet Diddy hit his head on the bunk above him.
Before his arrest, Dudus controlled Tivoli Gardens in Kingston and ran a network whose members sold cocaine, crack and marijuana in Jamaica and the United States. Prosecutors said his men sent him drug profits and guns bought in the U.S., while he offered protection and settled drug disputes.
His reach included New York and Miami. The federal case described a May 2007 agreement to attack a Bronx dealer over an unpaid drug debt, showing how Dudus’ power in Jamaica extended into American drug markets.
Dudus pleaded guilty in August 2011 to racketeering conspiracy. He also admitted to conspiring to commit assault with a dangerous weapon to support that criminal enterprise.
The following year, Judge Robert P. Patterson imposed the 23-year term. The sentence also included four years of supervision after prison and $1.5 million in forfeiture.
Dudus took over the gang and Tivoli Gardens after his father’s death in 1992. The effort to arrest him in 2010 triggered attacks on police stations by his gunmen, drawing in Jamaica’s army as well as police.
They captured him that June and sent him to New York.
Diddy is serving 50 months for two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Jurors acquitted him of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking.
AllHipHop previously covered his head-injury medical trip. Responding to the initial reports October 12, spokesman Juda Engelmayer said, “We are aware of the reports concerning Sean Combs and are working to confirm the circumstances.”
The prison declined to discuss Diddy’s housing or medical status at that time, citing privacy, safety and security.
