Doja Cat Examines Love And Jealousy Behind Vie With Jennifer Hudson

Doja Cat put the difficult side of romance at the center of her conversation with Jennifer Hudson, explaining how jealousy and relationship struggles fed into Vie.

During her November 6 appearance on “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” the rapper and singer described an album built around love without leaving out its harder emotions. She acknowledged her own capacity for jealousy while recognizing that it can hurt a relationship.

“with this album I wanted to touch on the more visceral parts of relationships, the hardships of it,” Doja Cat said.

The conversation also covered personal growth and her mental health, subjects she has addressed publicly while supporting the record. Her discussion with Hudson arrived as she continued the North American leg of Tour Ma Vie with Latto.

Vie, her fifth studio album, arrived September 26, 2025. Its lead single, “Jealous Type,” put that relationship theme directly in the title. Jack Antonoff and Y2K produced the track, and Boni Mata directed its Los Angeles-shot video.

The album followed Scarlet and moved toward an ’80s-inspired pop sound while keeping the singing and rapping that have shaped her work. Its French title translates to “life.” Love and identity run through the project, with “Jealous Type” setting up the romantic tension before the full record arrived.

Her mental health message provided further context for her recent discussion of growth. In August, Doja discussed past problems with cocaine and alcohol and the damage that online validation could do when she was already struggling.

She described the cocaine issue as years behind her. Her message focused on recognizing harmful coping habits and seeking help, rather than presenting those past experiences as her current condition.

Latto has also been part of this stretch of Doja’s career. The two released the video for their collaboration “Okayyy” in July, ahead of their fall arena dates together. The song appeared on Latto’s Big Mama album.

Their North American tour began October 1 in Detroit and is set to finish December 1 at Madison Square Garden. The run followed Doja’s overseas dates and brought her album campaign back to U.S. and Canadian arenas.
