Drake moved past Future and the Temptations for the most No. 1 albums on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, taking sole ownership of a record the Motown group had held or shared for 60 years.
HABIBTI became his 18th leader after climbing from No. 35 to No. 1 on the October 17 chart. Future and the Temptations each have 17, Billboard confirmed.
The album displaced another Drake release, ICEMAN. When the two arrived together in May, ICEMAN had kept HABIBTI out of the top spot.
It was the first self-replacement at No. 1 since Future and Metro Boomin traded places with their two joint albums in May 2024.
The latest climb followed the HABIBTI (FOMO) expansion, which brought four songs from Drake’s “FOMO” film to streaming services. “Solar Eclipse” paired him with Don Toliver over a reworking of Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas,” while “Cold Shoulder” brought Toliver and Yebba together with Drake.
“Quebec” and “Classic PT2” completed the additions. The latter extended a song from the original album.
Drake had previewed the songs in his self-funded “FOMO” film, which premiered online in September. He told fans some of its music would reach streaming services, while warning that the film’s full soundtrack might not. The expanded version gave those four tracks an official home on HABIBTI, bringing the album to 15 songs.
That rollout followed an earlier surprise. Drake announced HABIBTI and MAID OF HONOUR during the fourth installment of his ICEMAN livestream, then released all three albums together on May 15. The trio marked his first solo album releases since 2023’s For All The Dogs.
For the tracking week ending October 8, HABIBTI earned 71,000 U.S. album-equivalent units, up 506%. Billboard combines the album’s editions when counting its chart total.
The project also rebounded to No. 2 on the all-genre Billboard 200, up from No. 116. Nearly 70,000 units came from streaming, driving its return to the top 10.
The Temptations first took the R&B album record with their third leader, “Gettin’ Ready,” in July 1966. They reached 17 with “A Song For You” in May 1975.
