Drake Honors Lil Wayne At Birthday Party, But Is A Major Reunion Coming?

Drake turned 40 over the weekend, but his birthday tribute to Lil Wayne has me wondering whether the next chapter of their legendary partnership is finally approaching.
The Toronto-based superstar celebrated his milestone birthday with lavish festivities in New York City, surrounded by famous friends, family and luxury. But amid the random things happening, Drake got sentimental.

First, he shared a musical moment with his father, Dennis Graham, who arrived sporting a colorful outfit and a parrot on his shoulder. Yes, an actual parrot. Apparently, ordinary birthday accessories are beneath the Graham family.
The father and son performed together, with Dennis revisiting his 2017 song “Kinda Crazy.” It was a touching family moment. That bird deserves an honorable mention.
Then came the big tribute.
“I would not be here if it was not by way and courtesy of the young man Lil Wayne from YMCMB.”
Wayne wasn’t present, but his chi certainly was.
And here’s why I’m paying attention.
Earlier this month, Weezy revealed that he and Drake have a substantial collection of unreleased recordings, including material dating back to 2014 and 2015.
“We have a whole bunch of unreleased material. I go through stuff from 2014 and 2015, like… really unheard stuff,” Wayne said. “I edit stuff up and just send it to his phone so he can hear the new versions of it and get him going.”
Wayne also indicated that Drake has been enthusiastic about potentially releasing those recordings.

Between 2008 and 2013, the two delivered an extraordinary collection of collaborations, including “Miss Me,” “She Will,” “The Motto” and “HYFR.” Wayne helped introduce Drake to the masses, and Drake eventually ascended into global superstardom.
Their last released collaborations arrived in 2021, when they appeared on Nicki Minaj’s “Seeing Green” and Drake’s “You Only Live Twice” alongside Rick Ross.
That’s five years without another major musical reunion.
Could Drake’s birthday reflection signal renewed interest in those unreleased recordings? Perhaps. There’s no confirmed album, single or release date, but Wayne’s recent comments suggest the music remains very much alive.
And personally, I’d rather hear those vintage recordings than watch another round of internet arguments about who won some rap beef.
At 40, Drake has accomplished virtually everything commercially. Revisiting his musical roots with Wayne could provide something those streaming records cannot.
A reunion with the man who helped make it all possible.
Now, somebody please convince Weezy to open that vault.
