Drake brought more than 400 friends and family members to Casa Cipriani in New York City on Friday for a 40th birthday party with a surprise Backstreet Boys performance, TMZ reported.
The October 23 celebration included giveaways of Chanel and Hermès handbags. The game-show prizes started in the five figures and could have reached $1 million.
The gathering added another elaborate night to a birthday history filled with custom sets, costumes and unexpected celebrity appearances.
For his 32nd birthday in October 2018, Drake built a party around the early 2000s. He dressed as Fabolous from the “Trade It All Part 2” video, complete with a bandana worn over his hat.
Guests could grab Slurpees at a 7-Eleven setup and pose near a wall devoted to Blockbuster.
The television references went beyond the dress code. The party included a recreation of the “106 & Park” set, while airbrushed Drake shirts added another throwback detail. A separate room honored his mother, Sandra. French Montana, Trey Songz and Swizz Beatz were among the guests.
Kendall Jenner also leaned into the throwback dress code with a Von Dutch hat.
Three years later, Drake traded that nostalgia trip for a costume party at Goya Studios in Los Angeles. His October 2021 celebration marked his 35th birthday, with a “Chico Amante” theme that tied the night to Certified Lover Boy.
A white cowboy hat and fringed tan jacket gave him the Western look, with a bolo tie over his denim shirt. French Montana shared a video from the party and helped lead a birthday toast. The decorations included fake cocaine packages stamped with the party’s name. Offset, Future and Jack Harlow also attended.
By his 2023 birthday, the surprise came from the drinks service. Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, the actors behind Walter White and Jesse Pinkman on “Breaking Bad,” worked the bar in Miami.
Cranston later explained the visit during a January 2024 appearance on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” Drake had booked the catering company, but he didn’t know the actors would show up.
Cranston recalled standing behind the bar when Drake approached to order. The actor offered to help, then watched Drake recognize him. The two stars served their Dos Hombres mezcal during the celebration.
