Druski‘s and Sacha Baron Cohen were not on my bingo card for 2026. And now we have a raging debate over Black culture, comedy and even politics. The one is deep.
Druski has linked up with one of comedy’s most controversial characters, and the internet is already in an uproar. I saw this on the gram and did not think much of it. And then they got to talking.
The comedian announced a collaboration with Sacha Baron Cohen, aka Ali G, on Instagram Saturday (October 10) to little fanfare. And suddenly we are in a conversation over cultural appropriation and politics. They want to say comedy is where
Apparently they have something called “Old Heads” coming and they are going to be there in BK bright and early. They will be in East Brooklyn Studio Monday, October 12, at 11 AM. Participants must be at least 40 years old. Now, this is comedy.
Here is where it gets a bit complicated.
Druski has transformed himself into exaggerated characters mocking everything from street culture to suburban America. Even Charlie Kirk‘s wife got the biz. His elaborate disguises and commitment to staying in character have made him one of the most recognizable comedians on social media. Bro even did LGBTQ+ recently and it was not well received.
Cohen not so ironically helped write the modern playbook for this style of comedy. He has not mastered the social media era…yet.
Through Ali G, Borat and Brüno, the British entertainer became internationally famous for outrageous interviews, elaborate disguises and interactions with unsuspecting people. He walked so Druski could fly. Ali G is a white British man who adopts Black and Jamaican culture. It hits different.
Social media users have questioned why Druski would partner with Cohen, pointing to longstanding accusations that Ali G’s comedy exploits Black cultural stereotypes. Others have defended the collaboration as a meeting of two generations of comedians who specialize in exposing social absurdities.
The controversy has also expanded beyond comedy.
Cohen’s vocal support for Israel has generated additional criticism amid the ongoing conflict involving Israel and Palestinians. According to social media reactions highlighted by The Shade Borough, some users have also accused accounts promoting the collaboration of filtering comments containing terms such as “Free Palestine” and “Zionist.”
Those allegations about comment moderation have not been confirmed, but looking at the screen shots, it seems real.
Meanwhile, Cohen is preparing to bring Ali G back to movie theaters in Ali G: Who Iz I?, scheduled for release October 23. I bet they paid Druski some gooooood money for this promo. The fam in the United Kingdom are already boycotting because of concerns about racial stereotypes.
Druski has faced his own criticism for sketches involving racial impersonations, but he moves along all racial lines and backgrounds in a different way than his mans.
Now the two entertainers are bringing their respective brands of satire together in a gentrified Brooklyn.
As for Old Heads: GO IN! I am certain it will be funny af.
For the record, the only Sacha we acknowledge is Jenkins. RIP.
