E-40 Reveals Unreleased Tupac Verses In His Archive

E-40 says his archive still holds unreleased Tupac Shakur verses from their recording partnership.

The Bay Area rapper discussed the material on The Questlove Show. Questlove asked whether his vault held unheard work from Tupac, Mac Dre or B-Legit.

“I got maybe one or two Tupac verses in an archive,” E-40 said.

He also placed one of those recordings before “Dusted ’N’ Disgusted,” his released collaboration with Tupac. E-40 said the two had made something earlier that never came out, recalling Tupac’s visit to Studio Tone in Vallejo.

“Dusted ’N’ Disgusted” appeared on E-40’s In a Major Way in 1995, bringing Tupac together with Mac Mall and Spice 1. The following year, Tupac joined him again on “Million Dollar Spot” from Tha Hall of Game.

Their work also crossed over into Tupac’s own catalog. E-40 appeared on “Ain’t Hard 2 Find” with Richie Rich, B-Legit and C-Bo on All Eyez on Me, released February 13, 1996 with Mike Mosley and Rick Rock handling the production.

As E-40 recalled those sessions, Tupac’s speed stood out. He said Tupac would finish his own writing and move between studio rooms to check on everyone else while the other artists still worked on their parts.

“Tupac was too quick, man,” he said.

E-40 has described the friendship in earlier AllHipHop interviews. In a 2006 conversation, he remembered Tupac playing him material from the Makaveli project while they sat in a trailer at a video shoot.

He also recalled their talk about the names Makaveli and 40 Fonzerelli. Tupac discussed the meaning behind his new name, while other artists used the gathering to play music of their own. E-40 said he never got a chance to play his own album for Tupac that day.

By 2010, E-40 put Tupac among his Top Five Dead Or Alive. He pointed to the range that let Tupac make street records and party songs alongside tracks about parenthood, hardship and real-life struggles. He singled out “Brenda’s Got A Baby,” “Keep Ya Head Up” and “Dear Mama.”

E-40 did not name the archived recordings or set a release date during the interview.
