Elon Musk Puts Kibosh On Tesla Cybertruck

Elon Musk has put an expiration date on the Cybertruck’s current production run, and I have questions for anybody who bought one expecting to drive the future.

Apparently, the future needs that parking space back.

Musk announced that Tesla plans to wind down Cybertruck production at its Texas factory around the middle of 2027 to accommodate more Cybercabs. Yes, the angular pickup that looks like it arrived with classified documents is being asked to make room for a robotaxi.

“Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production,” Musk wrote on X.

Before anybody starts engraving a stainless steel headstone, there is a detail worth keeping straight. Reuters reported that Musk did not specify whether production might move to another facility or stop altogether.

The Texas wind-down is announced. A permanent farewell requires a little more clarity. It does not look great, we have to admit.

This is quite the development for a vehicle designed to command attention at every traffic light. I was never impressed. You cannot quietly pull up in something that resembles a refrigerator preparing for combat. LOL!

The business backdrop tells the real story.

Reuters reported that the Cybertruck struggled to sustain buyer interest after its 2023 launch and faced recalls, quality issues and repeated pricing changes. We saw it all online. Some were easy to rip apart with bare hands. Others were pointless off road. Those are substantial problems for any vehicle, especially one that’s supposed to be a 4wd fancy whip.

How do owners feel watching Tesla prepare the factory for its next big idea? They gotta feel foolish. Are they going to be able to sell that sucker?

For now, owners can keep driving and hoping they keep some parts for when it breaks down or needs a spare tire.

They were never hard.
