EXCLUSIVE: Jay-Z’s Accuser Puts Tony Buzbee’s Cash Payments To Her Under A Microscope

Tony Buzbee handed Jay-Z’s accuser cash more than once while her case against him was falling apart in court.

Her full sworn statement is now public, and it shows exactly how much money changed hands and when.

The biggest payment came at a Houston coffee shop. Buzbee met the woman there just once, with attorney David Fortney also in the room.

“Mr. Buzbee gave me $1,000 in cash for myself and my family,” she says in her declaration.

That wasn’t the only cash she got. Days earlier, Fortney gave her spending money as soon as she landed in Houston for an NBC interview.

“Mr. Fortney gave me $200 in cash for spending money,” she says. The firm also paid for her flight, her hotel and her meals.

The spending kept going right up to the cameras rolling. Fortney took her shopping the morning of her interview and picked up the tab himself.

“He helped me pick out an outfit for the interview with NBC News, which he paid for,” she says. She was so struck by the money that she texted her mom about it the same week, writing that she didn’t understand “who spends that kind of money in a day or week.”

Here’s what should worry Buzbee most.

The same day he gave her the $1,000, Fortney had her sign a fresh declaration swearing her claims against Jay-Z and Combs were true.

Hours after that signature, the amended complaint naming Jay-Z went into court. Cash and a signature landed on the same day the case against Jay-Z got real.

She now says none of it was true. “Shawn ‘Jay-Z’ Carter never raped me,” she states plainly. “I have never met or spoken to Mr. Carter.” She says the same about Combs.

She also says nobody at the Buzbee firm checked her story before anything happened. No corroborating witnesses, no background check, nothing. They took her word for it, added Jay-Z’s name two months later, and kept the money flowing the whole time.

Jay-Z is suing Buzbee for defamation in the Southern District of New York, in front of Judge Dale Ho. Jane Doe was a defendant in that same suit alongside Buzbee until this week.

Jay-Z’s lawyers filed a notice that day dropping her from the case entirely, without prejudice, meaning she could theoretically be sued again later but isn’t part of the fight going forward.

Jay-Z’s own lawyers said the point of dropping her was to simplify things. In their filing, they said the move was “intended to streamline and focus the issues to be adjudicated in this action.”

In plain terms, that means Jay-Z wants the case narrowed down to just Buzbee, so the defamation fight isn’t tangled up with a co-defendant who just admitted under oath that the whole thing was false.

Buzbee and Fortney have not said anything publicly about the cash payments detailed in Doe’s declaration.
