Lil Durk is under federal investigation over allegations he helped bring contraband into the Los Angeles jail where he remained locked up after beating his murder-for-hire case.
Prosecutors disclosed the investigation in a November 4 filing opposing his latest request for bail. They accused the rapper of using unauthorized devices to make hundreds of calls and argued his conduct behind bars showed he could not be trusted on release.
“The government is also investigating additional, potential criminal violations related to [Lil Durk] facilitating the introduction of contraband at the MDC,” prosecutors wrote.
That disclosure appeared in a footnote in the government’s response to Lil Durk’s bond application before Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald. The filing described an ongoing investigation, without announcing a new contraband indictment.
The government tied that inquiry to broader complaints about his access to phones inside the Metropolitan Detention Center.
“Among other violations, [Lil Durk] has repeatedly attempted to conceal his communications by using other inmates’ phone access, engaging in impermissible three-way calls, and smuggling in and using contraband communications devices to make hundreds of phone calls,” prosecutors alleged.
Prosecutors also said Lil Durk had been disciplined for possessing a contraband cellphone and attempting to destroy it. They accused him of refusing another cell search the previous week, after asking the court to let him await trial outside jail.
“Just last week, [Lil Durk] refused to comply with instructions from BOP staff attempting to search [Lil Durk]’s prison cell for yet more contraband,” the government wrote.
The bail fight grew out of the prosecution that began with Lil Durk’s October 2024 arrest. Authorities accused him of financing an August 2022 attack targeting Quando Rondo in Los Angeles as revenge for King Von’s killing. Quando Rondo survived, but his cousin Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson was killed.
Jurors acquitted Lil Durk of all five charges on September 11, 2026. He remained detained because murder-in-aid-of-racketeering and firearm charges had been separated for another trial.
Those remaining allegations included the January 2022 killing of Stephon Mack outside a Chicago community center.
Prosecutors alleged Lil Durk used Only The Family’s money and influence to reward violence against rivals. Lil Durk pleaded not guilty.
The government expanded the case in June 2026. Anthony Montgomery-Wilson and Preston Powell, accused of carrying out Mack’s killing, had pleaded guilty that spring. Their pleas admitted to a paid killing, but neither man named Lil Durk while entering his plea.
Lil Durk’s attorneys disputed a direct connection between him and Mack’s death. The judge separated the new counts, allowing the original murder-for-hire trial to proceed first.
In the new bail opposition, prosecutors insisted the acquittal did not resolve the remaining allegations.
“He still faces the more serious and expansive criminal allegations that he chose not to go to trial on,” they wrote.
Lil Durk’s latest release proposal offered future music and branding income as security, alongside property and support from friends. Sony backed a guarantee capped at $1 million.
Jay-Z also submitted a letter urging the judge to weigh the acquittal and allow Lil Durk home under court-imposed restrictions.
Prosecutors rejected the celebrity support as a reason for release and questioned whether a private security company paid by Lil Durk could adequately supervise him.
“His actions in an already-restrictive condition of confinement show he cannot and will not abide by bond conditions on his own accord, outside the purview of the USMS and BOP,” they argued.
The remaining trial was moved to August 30, 2027. Prosecutors said the delay largely reflected defense lawyers’ scheduling conflicts and offered to proceed sooner.
“The government remains prepared to proceed to trial on a more expedited schedule,” the filing stated.
