Fabolous wants a Drake project built on bars. During an interview on “Cousins with Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady”, the veteran rapper said he wants to hear Drake lean further into his lyrical side.
Fabolous also explained why he sees guest verses as a contest and confirmed that new music of his own is coming.
His request was about the writing. He wants Drake to make a full project with tight lyrics and more bars.
That fits how Fabolous described his own work on guest spots. He treats each feature as a contest. He measures his verse against what is already on the song. On “Cousins,” he linked that drive to a wider point: artists have to grow rather than lean on an old formula.
That outlook goes back to the mixtape circuit that shaped his early-2000s run.
Fabolous said mixtapes “also used to be more raw, more street gritty, or more freestyle over other people’s beats.”
That helps explain why he still values songs where the verse is the main event.
In 2026, Fabolous has tied his music history to the work he is doing now. “The Hoodoos (Freestyle)” is his latest release, dated September 17.
One week later, he joined “Joe and Jada” to mark 25 years since Ghetto Fabolous arrived on September 11, 2001. He also discussed his move into “Let’s Rap About It” with Jim Jones, Dave East and Maino.
He said artists should control their stories and keep Hip-Hop history alive.
There is also a business side to his promise of new music.
AllHipHop reported in November 2025 that Fabolous had spent nearly two years untangling an old deal. He gave no release date or project title.
However, he confirmed that new music is coming. What it will sound like and when it will arrive remain open.
