News Americas, GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Fri. Sept. 18, 2026: Antigua & Barbuda Falcons became the first team to book their place in the 2026 Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League final, demolishing Guyana Amazon Warriors by nine wickets at Kensington Oval in the second-fastest win in CPL history last night.
Shadab Khan and Sufyan Moqim took four wickets apiece, including a hat-trick from Khan, to bowl Guyana out for just 76. Rahkeem Cornwall then blitzed 49 off 16 balls to seal the chase, leaving no doubt about which side would advance.
Guyana had chosen to bat and made a steady start, reaching 34 for 1 through the Powerplay. But the Falcons’ bowling attack, the engine behind their tournament run, took over immediately after. Moqim struck first, drawing mistakes from Glenn Phillips and Mohammad Haris in quick succession. Cornwall’s onslaught seals it
Guyana captain Tahir opened the bowling himself in an attempt to fight fire with fire, but Cornwall punished the tactic immediately, taking Tahir, Miraz and Pierre apart and racing to within one ball of matching Andre Russell’s CPL record for the fastest half-century. He was eventually dismissed for 49, caught by Hetmyer off Tahir’s bowling, having already left the Falcons needing just 27 more runs. Evin Lewis took over from there, punishing a bowling change to Shamar Joseph for 21 runs off six deliveries despite battling cramp, before hitting the winning runs with just 32 balls bowled in the entire chase.
The Falcons advance to Sunday’s final in ominous form. Guyana must now regroup for today’s eliminator against Jamaica Kingsmen, with the winner earning a shot at the Falcons for the CPL crown.
