ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — Five occupants of a Toyota Mark X had to be cut from the twisted metal hunk of a vehicle following a crash in Portmore, St Catherine, early Thursday morning.
"There have been no fatalities reported so far, but the team is on the ground; we haven't received any other updates as yet," a representative of the Constabulary Communications Network, the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s public-information arm, told Observer Online.
The accident happened on Fort Augusta Drive, the roadway linking the toll road to Port Henderson Road.
The five occupants were rushed to hospital for treatment. In videos shared on social media, emergency personnel were seen extracting the victims from a car that was wrapped around a metal pole.
One shirtless man was seen attempting to offer help to the emergency personnel from the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB).
