Flavor Flav offered WNBA fans a signed excuse to miss work for the Finals, asking bosses to let employees miss work for a game scheduled in the middle of the workday.
The Public Enemy rapper posted his mock work note ahead of Thursday’s Game 6 between the Golden State Valkyries and Atlanta Dream.
“Thursday is a paid holiday. Because Flavor Flav said so,” he wrote. The note requested excused absences and carried his signature, along with the titles “The World’s Greatest Hype Man” and “Official Supporter of Women’s Sports.”
Flav turned his familiar role as a hype man toward fans whose work schedules could keep them from watching. The early start had already drawn complaints from supporters who wanted a prime-time game.
The note followed a much larger effort to celebrate women athletes: his SHE Weekend in Las Vegas. SHE stood for Sports, Hospitality and Entertainment. Held July 16 through 19, the gathering brought about 150 female Winter Olympians and Paralympians to the city.
Flav enlisted companies to help cover the trip. MGM Resorts supplied more than 100 free hotel rooms, Delta Air Lines covered flights, and Dove joined as a sponsor. His fundraiser for the athletes passed $133,000 before the weekend ended.
Public Enemy performed during the celebration, giving athletes time with potential business partners.
The schedule included a parade and a free outdoor concert, followed by meetings that connected athletes with brands and executives. Those sessions put sponsorship opportunities alongside the public festivities.
He also backed Dan Levy on October 12 after the actor challenged Shane Gillis over comments about women’s gym clothes in a “Saturday Night Live” monologue.
Flav shared a report about Levy’s response and added, “Important allyship.” Levy had urged men to speak up about how women were being treated.
Fans planning to watch Thursday: the Valkyries’ official schedule lists Game 6 for October 29 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Tipoff is at 12:30 P.M. Eastern, and USA and Peacock will air the game.
