ST JAMES, Jamaica — Works Minister Robert Morgan is insisting that the drainage study that is part of the Montego Bay Perimeter Road Project should address many of the flooding issues in St James, including that of Catherine Hall.
His comments during a visit to the area on Wednesday follow heavy rains that affected the community earlier this week.
The minister urged patience from residents, highlighting that they will soon see some relief.
"There's been some talk about flooding, and some challenges for the residents in Catherine Hall-- and a part of the solution is this road, but that's not the only solution. In December, we will receive the drainage study, and that study will be then examined, and then we will decide on how we're going to implement the solutions," he said.
However, for many residents, the situation—flooding in the community —remains the same each time it rains.
On Monday evening, heavy rains had residents feeling wary, especially in light of the challenges faced following the passage of Hurricane Melissa.
The minister said the study will deal with the North and South Gullies, the Montego River, and several other water features in the city.
"We expect that when that work is done, a lot of the challenges that Montego Bay has as it relates to flooding will be resolved," he said.
