Frome Tech upset Rusea’s High 4-2 in daCosta Cup
HANOVER, Jamaica — Jovaunnie Whyte scored a double as Frome Technical came from behind twice to beat Rusea's High 4-2 in their ISSA daCosta Cup Zone B game at the Colin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea on Tuesday. Frome, who were held 0-0 by Petersfield High on Saturday and finished the game with nine players, moved to the top of the group on 10 points, one more than Rusea's, who were losing for the first time this season. Meanwhile, Yallahs High became the first team to win their first four games after beating Fair Prospect 2-1 in Zone H, while Irwin High and St James High stayed tied for the lead in Zone A after securing their third straight wins. In Lucea, the game got off to a fast start with three goals in the first 13 minutes, as Rusea's took the lead in the first minute when Omarion Jemmison took advantage of a slow-starting Frome team to fire home from close range. Frome rallied and were rewarded with a penalty in the ninth minute, and Wayne Mullings made no mistake, firing past Rusea's goalkeeper Giovanni Gardner. The home team retook the lead in the 13th minute when Maliek Headley scored from just inside the 18-yard box. Whyte then equalised in the 41st minute, taking advantage of a disorganised Rusea's defence, before putting Frome ahead for the first time in the 75th minute when he was sent through by Mullings and fired under the advancing Gardner. Tariq Maxwell added a fourth in the 88th minute with his first touch after coming on as a substitute, heading a cross from Raheem Dennison from close range. Yallahs High opened a six-point lead over Happy Grove High after their win over Fair Prospect. Nathaniel Foster scored in his third straight game from the penalty spot and Delante Hawthorne added the other as Irwin High beat Spot Valley High 2-1, while Deyon Bailey scored a double to lead St James High to a 2-0 win over Cambridge High. In another Zone A game, Muschett High beat Green Pond High 3-1 for back-to-back wins to move into third place on six points. Zone C leaders Brown's Town High rebounded from their draw on Saturday to beat York Castle High 5-2, while Marcus Garvey Technical hammered Walkerswood Academy 18-0 to move into second place on goal difference ahead of Ferncourt High. Knox College maintained their place atop Zone F with a 3-0 win over Holmwood Technical, while Edwin Allen High beat Alphansus Davis High 1-0, as the losers went down by the same margin in back-to-back games.
