Funkmaster Flex Breaks Silence After All Hell Breaks Loose At Knicks Game

Funkmaster Flex pushed back on claims that he was punched during a Knicks game scuffle, naming Shadow Stokes in two posts about the encounter.

The Hot 97 DJ posted a clip of the clash in a crowded hall. He then came back with a blunt response. “SHADOW STOKES COULD NEVER PUNCH ME!” he wrote.

The clip showed a group of men pressed together near a door. Arms stretched across the group, with hands on shoulders and backs. The camera then swung away from that group toward more people farther down the hall. Some stood and watched as the crowd moved past them.

The brief, partly blocked view did not show who started the clash. It also did not give AllHipHop a clear view of who struck whom. Flex, for his part, denied that he took a punch to the face.

His first post paired a string of laughing emojis with questions about the clash. Flex asked when he had been assaulted and said he was minding his business. He then turned to someone he called Shadow and asked who had been with him. He did not name that other person.

In the next post, Flex used Stokes’ full name. He also placed his own words over the clip to push back on the punch claim. His message mocked that account of the clash rather than laying out how it began.

Stokes was not a new name in Flex’s world. The two had worked on the same record years before this clash. Credits for Flex’s 2005 “Carshow Tour CD & DVD” listed Stokes as a co-executive producer for Casino Entertainment. Flex was among the project’s executive producers. Koch Records put out the set more than two decades ago.

Stokes also worked on the label side. In a 2010 AllHipHop interview, DJ Kay Slay named him among E1’s radio staff as he discussed the team working his records. Flex did not say how his ties to Stokes reached this point.

The Knicks hosted the Philadelphia 76ers at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, October 20. Flex posted his latest response the next morning.

He ended that post by promising more of his account Thursday at 7 p.m.: “I GOT A STORY TO TELL!”
