Ghanaian teen fatally shot on way to school in Bronx
The West African community in Bronx, New York, has been plunged into mourning after a teenage boy from Ghana was fatally shot Thursday morning while on his way to school. Fifteen-year-old Javits Frimpong, was reportedly chased down and attacked while making his way to school. According to the Guardian, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) received a report Thursday morning about a shooting near Corona Park in the Bronx. About 9:24am, responding officers found Frimpong with a gunshot wound to his stomach. He was reportedly transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Frimpong had reportedly just marked one year in New York after arriving from Ghana. His father, Thomas Frimpong, told the Guardian that his son was being bullied at school and said two students were suspended for harassing the teen. “I lost him,” the father was quoted saying by the Guardian. “I don’t know what to do now.” Video footage reportedly captured the teen running as he was chased by individuals wearing all black. No one has been arrested in connection with the incident. Investigation are ongoing.
