Gunna And Walmart Pledge $10,000 In FAMU Student Scholarships

Gunna’s Wunna Run Club and Walmart pledged $10,000 in scholarships as part of a new link with Florida A&M University’s homecoming 5K. The school announced the partnership on October 16, pairing its annual race with aid for five students.

Each student will receive $2,000. The awards will go to students whose majors have a health-related component, FAMU said.

The October 22 event at Bragg Memorial Stadium will be the fifth annual Walmart-sponsored homecoming run and walk. FAMU said it has drawn hundreds of people. Walmart’s Regine Moore said the company’s goal had been “showing up consistently for a community we genuinely value.”

The partnership followed more than a year of Wunna Run events. Gunna announced the club in August 2025 before its first major 5K in Brooklyn. He hosted that race at Prospect Park on September 3. Organizer NYCRUNS handled registration, timing and the course, turning the artist’s fitness project into a staffed public event. NYCRUNS said the Brooklyn race reached its registration limit within hours of the signup opening.

The club also held runs in Houston and Toronto. It later reached Johannesburg, where Gunna hosted another 5K in January.

Gunna explained the club’s appeal to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. He said the response pushed him to keep going because people had come together for something other than a concert.

“It was for a run, and it was all community,” he said. “My vision is coming to life.”

His Atlanta run this year was set to benefit Gunna’s Great Giveaway, his nonprofit serving families in South Fulton. He also said his own fitness routine had taught him to balance studio time with training and helped his stamina onstage. He said he often used runs to listen to beats or songs he had just made. Time away from the studio gave him a chance to think through changes before he went back to work.

FAMU’s homecoming runs from October 18 through October 25. The 5K was already on the calendar before Friday’s announcement added Wunna Run Club and the scholarships. Runners and walkers must register in advance, with signup closing at noon Tuesday, October 20.
