Gunna Joins FAMU Homecoming 5K & Urges Students To Put Health First

Gunna brought his Wunna Run Club to Florida A&M University’s homecoming 5K, joining students for a morning run and urging them to prioritize their health alongside their grades.

The Atlanta rapper joined the fifth annual run/walk at Bragg Memorial Stadium in Tallahassee.

Walmart sponsored the event, which drew students, alumni and local residents during the historically Black university’s homecoming week.

For Gunna, the point was to get people together, not just get them running. He launched Wunna Run Club to give fans a way to start building healthier habits or keep up the ones they already had.

“Y’all are smart, y’all in school, but you also gotta watch your health; wellness is major,” he said, according to WTXL.

Footage shared by FAMU showed him in a bright green event shirt bearing the university and Walmart names.

The university’s recap also captured tents, refreshments and a microphone presentation under a green canopy, with stadium seating behind the gathering.

The visit followed the previously announced scholarship partnership between Walmart and Wunna Run Club.

Together, they committed $10,000 for five FAMU students whose majors include a health-related component. Each student will receive $2,000 toward their education.

Caitlin Smith, FAMU’s student government vice president and student homecoming committee chair, told the station that help with college costs could ease the strain, especially for out-of-state students.

She said she understood that pressure herself and was grateful for support that could make school more affordable.

The campus visit brought Gunna’s running project into an event that was already a homecoming tradition. FAMU’s announcement noted that his first Wunna Run 5K at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park drew more than 1,000 people, with runners at different skill levels taking part.

The event took place before a mass shooting that injured 11 people, including six children.
