News Americas, GEORGETOWN, Guyana, Fri. Sept. 18, 2026: Chedean Nation produced one of the greatest comebacks in Limacol WCPL history to power Guyana Amazon Warriors to their maiden title, sealing a thrilling two-wicket win over Trinbago Knight Riders at Kensington Oval.
Walking to the crease at number eight with the Warriors reeling at 71 for 6 in the 13th over, still needing 74 runs from 46 balls to reach Trinbago’s target of 145, the 39-year-old Nation launched a stunning counterattack, smashing four sixes in an unbeaten 39 off just 21 balls to turn the match on its head.
Captain Chloe Tryon joined Nation with the Warriors still 74 runs adrift, and the pair blasted 40 runs off just 23 balls before Tryon was bowled by Laura Harris for 32 in the 17th over. When Sheneta Grimmond fell for 10 two overs later, the Knight Riders briefly clawed their way back into contention, with the Warriors needing 16 runs from nine balls. Nation refused to buckle, taking on seamer Shikha Pandey and off-spinner Karishma Ramharack to bring the Warriors home with three balls to spare, finishing unbeaten on 149 for 8.
It was Nation’s first opportunity with the bat in only her second appearance of the season, and she made it count when it mattered most.
A top order wobble, then a rescue act
The Warriors’ chase had appeared to be slipping away after their top order faltered. Tazmin Brits, in fine form throughout the tournament, made just 22, while Shemaine Campbelle managed 9, among five Warriors batters dismissed before the 10-over mark. Trinbago’s bowling attack, led by captain Deandra Dottin alongside Ramharack and Pandey, each claiming two wickets, had seized control before Nation’s late heroics.
Earlier, Dottin won the toss and chose to bat. Debutant Sushma Verma top-scored with 39 to anchor Trinbago’s innings, before Marizanne Kapp and Pandey provided a late surge that lifted the Knight Riders to 145 for 6. Warriors seamer Shabnim Ismail finished with two wickets, while Shamilia Connell bowled an economical four-over spell for 1 for 18.
The title marks the third time Guyana Amazon Warriors Women have reached a WCPL final, following appearances in 2023 and 2025, but the first time they’ve completed the journey to the trophy.
