Inspectah Deck is calling out the current state of Hip-Hop, saying the genre is missing authentic substance.
During a recent appearance on Drink Champs, the Wu-Tang Clan legend broke down why he feels the industry is pushing out watered-down content instead of real Hip-Hop.
“I can’t find Hip-Hop no more,” Deck said on the podcast. “There’s only a certain amount of people getting busy.”
The legendary MC pointed to artists like Benny the Butcher, 38 Spesh, and Ransom as examples of rappers staying true to their craft. According to Deck, these artists keep their sound and message consistent across every project they release.
Deck’s frustration stems from what he sees as forced content dominating the industry.
While he acknowledged the success of artists like Yung Miami, he emphasized the need for balance in Hip-Hop’s messaging.
“A lot of the other shit was being forced down our throat every day,” he explained.
The Wu-Tang member isn’t against artists finding commercial success, but he believes the industry needs more voices delivering substance alongside the party records.
The solution, Deck says, is simple: balance.
For every “Spend Dat” anthem, Hip-Hop needs a “Save That Shit” record that encourages listeners to invest in themselves and their futures.
“There’s got to be a balance to this shit,” he stressed.
Deck recently dropped a new album, Dragon’s Breath, that directly addresses this gap in the market, creating music for listeners who want real Hip-Hop without trends or manufactured waves.
