J. Cole chose four fans to rap “Johnny P’s Caddy” on camera at his October 25 Birmingham show in the United Kingdom.
Footage showed fans had held up signs asking to trade bars with him. The crowd also backed him on an almost a cappella “Nobody’s Perfect.”
Cole praised Birmingham and hometown heroes Black Sabbath, while fans waved white towels during “Old Dog,” according to local reports. Incredibly, he also spotted a fan from his hometown of Fayetteville.
The two-hour set began with Cole singing “39 Intro” under a spotlight among the audience. He walked through standing fans, clasping hands, before a car and house appeared onstage. He later sang “Poor Thang” from the roof. “Quik Stop” closed the show.
The stop took place at Utilita Arena Birmingham as part of “The Fall-Off Tour.” The venue billed the run as his first UK headline shows since 2017, a nine-year gap between his UK headline runs.
That return followed the February 6 release of The Fall-Off, his seventh studio album. As AllHipHop previously reported, Cole announced a tour of more than 50 dates across North America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. The original plan covered more than 15 countries, with an opening night in Charlotte and a December 12 finale in Johannesburg.
The run was his first solo headline tour since “The Off-Season Tour” in 2021. It also marked his first full world tour since 2017’s “4 Your Eyez Only World Tour.”
The announced itinerary linked the UK shows to dates in Paris, Hamburg, Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo before a late-November trip to Australia, then New Zealand and South Africa.
Home was a theme of the new album well before the stage took shape. The Fall-Off split its story across two discs, each built around a return home at a different age: 29 and 39. The idea traced two points in Cole’s pursuit of rap greatness. He had pointed toward the project on KOD in 2018 with “1985 (Intro to the ‘The Fall Off’).”
Next on his calendar was Glasgow. OVO Hydro listed Cole’s “The Fall-Off Tour” for October 26, the night after Birmingham, with tickets still on sale as of Monday morning.
